BUILT IN 1852 BY C.MARE & CO AT BLACKWALL, LONDON FOR THE GENERAL SCREW STEAM SHIP COMPANY.SHE WAS A SISTER SHIP TO THE LADY JOCELYN. SHE WAS FITTED WITH ENGINES AS WELL AS SAIL.SHE WAS USED BY THE GENERAL STEAMSHIP CO ON THEIR MAIL RUN FROM PLYMOUTH TO MADRAS VIA THE S.ATLANTIC ISLANDS, CAPE TOWN, MAURITIUS CEYLON. IN 1868 SHE WAS SOLD TO PARK BROTHERS, WHO REMOVED HER ENGINES AND SHE WAS CONVERTED BACK TO A SAILING VESSEL. SHE SPENT A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME CHARTERED TO SHAW SAVILL & CO. HER FINAL VOYAGE WAS ON A HOULDER BROTHER CHARTER.IN 1880 SHE WAS IN COLLISION IN FOG IN THE ENGLISH CHANNEL WITH THE STEAMSHIP 'CENTURION' AND SANK, ALL CREW AND PASSENGERS WERE SAFELY TAKEN ONBOARD CENTURION.FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN WHAT LIFE ONBOARD WAS LIKE ONBOARD FOR PASSENGERS, I REFER YOU TO "SHAW SAVILL LINE - ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF TRADING" BY SYDNEY WATERS PAGES 45 THROUGH 50, WHERE THERE IS AN EXTRACT FROM THE DIARY OF THE WIFE OF THE SHIPS SURGEON DURING A VOYAGE FROM LONDON TO NEW ZEALAND IN 1869.
