MAORI / CONSEIPERE

BUILT IN 1890, SHE WAS AT 2711 TONS A BIT TO SMALL, AND PROVED FINANCIALLY UN-VIABLE FOR THE COMPANY, SO SHE WAS SENT BACK TO HER BUILDERS AS PART PAYMENT FOR A MUCH LARGER VESSEL. THE REPLACEMENT VESSEL, ALSO TO BE NAMED 'MAORI', WAS SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR THE TRADE AND WAS MUCH LARGER AT ABOUT 5200 TONS AND COULD STEAM AT 11 KNOTS.MAORI WAS SOLD TO FRENCH OWNERS WHO RE-NAMED HER CONSEIPERE IN 1899. SHE WAS WRECKED IN 1908.
